Kashmiri Chicken

Last night cooked this dish for the first time. The rich aroma & taste of the dish simply bowled me over. Try this. You wouldn’t be disappointed.

Kashmiri Chicken

Ingredients

  • Chicken- 500g
  • Onion paste of 2 medium sized onions
  • Tomato- 1 (finely chopped)
  • Garlic paste- 1 tsp
  • Ginger paste- 1 tsp
  • Cashew Nuts- ¼ cup (grounded)
  • Yogurt- ½ cup (beaten)
  • Green Cardamom- 5 (coarsely grounded)
  • Slit green chilies- 6
  • Salt
  • Kashmiri mirch powder- ½ tsp
  • Vegetable oil- 2 tbsp
  • Almonds- 2 tbsp chopped for garnishing

Method

Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Add onion paste and sauté till light brown in color, next to add the garlic paste & ginger paste. Sauté for few seconds. Now add the freshly washed chicken pieces, finely chopped tomato, green chilies & cardamoms. Mix, cover & cook for 15 minutes. Stir in between. Now add the yogurt, salt, ½ cup of warm water & kashmiri mirch powder, mix well. Cover & cook on a medium heat. When chicken is nearly boiled add grounded cashew, mix well & cook till done. Stir in between to prevent from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan. Remove from heat. Garnish with chopped almonds.

Serve hot with rice, roti or paratha.
