Home Butter Cake- Dream comes true with Casa Grande

It’s said that our home is a reflection of our personality. I was thinking of my dream home and how I would like to design it for myself. In the post, I will be sharing my idea of an ideal home. I would like a long balcony from where I can reach out & touch a few bougainvillaea trees. It would be nice if I can have a small garden just in front of my main gate with some happy sunflowers blooming fresh under the blue sky. There should be plenty of light and ventilation gushing into our house.  I love natural lighting  to click lovely pictures! I love dark wood flooring.  Endless thoughts evoke our minds and hearts when we plan our home.

Few days back a dear friend of mine from Chennai was sharing his happiness with me of being a proud owner of a 4 BHK Luxury Villa at Thalambur, OMR and how they happen to know about Casa Grande which turned their dream into reality. Casa Grande Private Limited (est. 2004), is an ISO-certified real estate enterprise committed to building aspirations and delivering value. In the last 12 years, they’ve developed over 6 million square ft of prime residential real estate across Chennai, Bengaluru and Coimbatore. They’re already having over 4000 happy families across 68 landmark properties. Isn’t that impressive?

Later on that day, I was discussing my home plans with my husband. The urge of having my home was so strong that next day I decided to bake my dream home. I chose to bake a Butter Cake which is soft on inside and strong from outside just like the way we want our Dream Home to be, a strong foundation and warm with the laughter and memories created inside the home to last us a lifetime. I will be running you through my recipe for this cake. Read on to know more.

Butter Cake with Butter cream frosting

Serves: 8

Ingredients for Cake

  • All-purpose flour/Maida- 1 ½ cup
  • Caster sugar/White powdered sugar- 1 cup
  • Baking soda- ½ tsp
  • Unsalted butter- ½ cup
  • Salt- ½ tsp
  • Egg- 2
  • Milk- ½ cup
  • White vinegar- ½ tbsp
  • Vanilla extract- ½ tsp

Ingredients for Butter cream frosting

  • Icing sugar- ¾ cup
  • Unsalted butter- ¼ cup
  • Milk- 2 tsp

Method for Cake

Before I start all the ingredients were at room temperature.

Preheat oven to 176 degrees C. Grease an 8” X 6” rectangular cake pan with butter and dust with flour or use a house shaped cake pan. At room temperature mix the milk and vinegar. Keep aside for 5 minutes. In a bowl mix all the dry ingredients (flour, salt and baking soda).

Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, use an electronic hand mixer for best result. In this add the eggs one by one. Add one at a time and keep whisking. Add vanilla extract, whisk well. In this add flour mixture into 3 batches. Add the milk+vinegar mixture in between while adding flour in batches, whisk well until lump free. Pour the cake batter into the cake pan. Smooth the top with the help of spatula. Tap cake pan gently on kitchen counter couple of times to release the air bubbles. Bake for 55 minutes. Insert toothpick in the middle of the cake. Cake is ready if the toothpick comes out clean. If not, bake for some more time, and then check again.

Cool the cake in the pan for 15 minutes and then run a sharp knife around the edges of the pan and carefully remove the cake. Turn onto a cooling rack and leave there until completely cooled.

Cut a piece of cardboard in the shape of a home, place it on top of the cake. Hold firmly with one hand; now give the cake a house shape by cutting the excess cake parts along with the border of the cardboard cutout. Do this only if you’re not using a house shape cake pan.

Method for Butter cream

Beat butter in a bowl until creamy, now add icing sugar into this, and mix well. Next to add milk, whisk well until you get a smooth frosting.

I decorated the roof top of my home cake with almond flakes after spreading some butter cream on it. Then I piped some yellow butter cream to make the window grills. The door, windows and path in front of the house are made with chocolate.

At the end my Home Cake looked lovely standing tall on the bed of green grass and it was making my belief stronger to plan my own home real soon.

Note:

  • During baking time cover the top of the cake pan loosely with a piece of aluminium foil to avoid over browning on top. Do this after first 30 minutes or until the top baked to perfect brown.
  • Baking time may vary little bit for different ovens and different sizes of baking pans.
