Turn the Flash Off

Yes, please. Flash has all the power to overexpose the little details around food, and it turns out the texture of it by giving an unrealistic glow which is not desirable in food photos. So, make sure that you’ve turned off the flash of your mobile/camera before capturing any photo. Use ambient light as much as you can.

Natural Light is best

Try to shoot food in natural daylight. If you’re dining in a restaurant, find out a natural light source and take your plate there to capture a photo.

Get candid with your Food

Be casual with that plate of pancakes or the glass of cold coffee. Let the holiday vibes soak into your pictures. Stay candid when you want yourself into the food frame or anytime you’re adding human elements with food try to get an all-natural shot.

Use the table tops

You’re having lunch in a café, right? And the tabletop is wooden, so, it would be perfect for those flatlay photos. Arrange the plates a bit, make your partner spoon out the risotto and take a shot. Interesting surface, different set up of the tabletops add great character to food photos.

Make sure your Lens is Clean

Whether it’s mobile or camera always check out for the cleanliness of the lens. Keep it dust-free, wipe out fingerprint impressions with a lens cloth if any.

Use different angles

Don’t restrict yourself with only top & close-up food shots. Try taking pictures with different angles, preferably side angles, the blurry background always adds up the character into photos.
